Stop Snoring Treatment

Snoring is not funny. An estimated 45% occasionally snore and 25% or so do it every time they sleep. For some, it?s a relatively quiet and unnoticeable noise that doesn?t affect their life at all, but for many it?s a serious issue that causes concern.

Most snoring is about 60 decibels About the volume of a normal spoken conversation; bad snoring averages 80 decibels ? that?s as load as a medium yell. World record breakers peak 90 decibels ? now that?s loud.

Who Cares?
If you sleep with, or have slept with a snorer you will care. Snoring can have a dramatic affect on your relationship. Sleep depravation causes people to become stressed, emotionally, erratic and unhealthy and snoring causes sleep depravation. Like a crying baby, snorers can wake their partners every half an hour, the emotional strain can be dramatic.

But it?s not just partners who can potentially suffer. Snorers themselves, suffer the same depravation by being woken up (and turned over) by their partners. For the considerate the fear of waking their partner, causes them to carry a lot of tension while asleep, which can lead to back and shoulder problems, teeth grinding and other related issues. Snorers also put undue strain on their own heart and lungs.

Why Do People Snore?
Snoring is a noise made when the sufferer breathes (usually on intake) while asleep. This causes the soft palate and uvula (that thing that hangs down in the back of the throat) to vibrate.

There are two main causes for the vibration, a blocked airway or weak muscles.

What?s The Solution?
Stop snoring treatments are widespread. Some are cheap and others expensive. It?s big business. However, the vast majority of sufferers can stop snoring with simple exercises.

How Did I Get Gall Bladder Problems?

The gallbladder is a small organ located under the liver. Liver secretes bile which gall bladder then restore for later use. Bile is used by the body to digest fats. It contains cholesterol, bile salts, lecithin and small amounts of some other substances.

Rapid changes of body weight can cause gall bladder problems. It is important to note, that obesity and gall bladder disease are related. Gall bladder problems are most common among women age forty and over who also are overweight and have had children.

Inflamed gall bladder causes severe pain in the upper right abdomen, fever, nausea, and vomiting. It must be treated immediately or it may become life threatening.

Here are some considerations potentially beneficial to improve gall bladder function.

?Detoxification program for the liver and colon may improve gall bladder function. ?Cleansing coffee enemas may give some relief if you have chronic problems. ?Essential fatty acids are very important constituents of every living cell and are needed to repair and prevention of gall stones. Vitamin E prevents fats from becoming rancid. ?Lecithin is a fat emulsifier helping in digestion of fats. It is available as capsules or granules. ?L-Glycine is essential for the biosynthesis of nucleic and bile acids. It is absorbed better if it is taken with B6 and C vitamins. Milk will inhibit the absorption, so take it with juice or water. ?Vitamin A is needed for repair of tissues. ?All B vitamins are needed for proper digestion. ?C vitamin deficiency may lead to gall stones. ?Gall bladder malfunction interferes with vitamin D absorption. Consider supplements if you have gall bladder problems. ?Alfalfa cleanses the liver and supplies necessary vitamins and minerals. ?In Europe peppermint oil capsules are used to cleanse the gall bladder. ?Other potentially beneficial herbs are barberry root bark, catnip, cramp bark, dandelion, fennel, ginger root, horsetail, parsley, and wild yam. ?Avoid all animal fat and meat, fried foods, spicy foods, margarine, soft drinks, chocolate, commercial oils, refined carbohydrates, and coffee. ?Do not overeat.

Gall stones don't necessarily cause any symptoms, unless one of the stones slips into a bile duct. Bile duct drains the gall bladder and the liver. The symptoms of a gall stone blocking the bile passage are nausea, vomiting, and pain in the upper right abdomen. Symptoms usually start after eating fatty or fried food.

Gall stones are formed from crystallized cholesterol combined with bile. The treatment for gall stones is usually surgical removal of the gall bladder if the stones cause symptoms. Sometimes drugs or sound waves can be used to get stones dissolved or fragmented.

We all know what dumbbells look like, right? Usually, they consist of a narrow handle or handgrip in between two weighted spheres or disks. They look sort of like an exaggerated hourglass figure. They?re designed to be lifted with one hand rather than two, to add weight and resistance to moves like unilateral bicep curls. They come in a wide variety of weights, from 1 pound on up, but the basic design is the same with one exception ? PowerBlock Adjustable Dumbbells.

The PowerBlocks are a revolutionary design that makes working out with dumbbells an actual pleasure, and lets you have a complete set of free weights that?s small enough to store on a bookshelf. Here?s how PowerBlocks lets you fit a whole home gym into a milk crate sized space.

Working Out With Conventional Dumbbells

Conventional dumbbells come in a variety of sizes. If you want to work out using different weights for different exercises, you need to buy a set of dumbbells in each size you want. That adds up after a while ? not just in money, but in space needed to store your growing collection.

The solution is a set of adjustable dumbbells. Adjustable dumbbells have a center bar and several sets of weights. The weights slide onto the bar and fasten into place with a locking collar of some sort. The advantage is that they take up much less space. The disadvantage is that you have to take them apart and put them back together every time you want to kick your workout up a notch.

The PowerBlock Difference

PowerBlocks is a complete set of adjustable dumbbells that fit into about the amount of space that a milk crate takes up. Imagine having a full set of dumbbells ? in a milk crate. The real difference, though, is in the way that you adjust the weight on the PowerBlocks. There?s no fiddling with wrenches, no sliding weight rings on and off of bars and no chance of the weights sliding off or rattling around loose as you work out. Adjusting the weight is almost as easy as putting them down and picking them up again.

Most adjustable dumbbell sets have a dozen or more pieces. For each dumbbell, you?ve got a bar, a collar, a pin, and pairs of weights in all the sizes you want. The PowerBlocks dumbbells have just four pieces:

1.The core

An internal handle that weighs five pounds, the core holds the rest of it together. The handle itself is padded and designed to be gripped in one hand.

2.The weight plates

The weight of each PowerBlock is controlled by sets of 5 pound weight plates, connected to each other in pairs. The weight plates are similar to the plates you?ll see on adjustable weight machines at the gym. Each set of weight plates adds ten pounds to the five pound core. Add one set, and you?ve got 15 pound dumbbells. Add two, and you have twenty-five pound dumbbells, all the way up to 85 pounds. What if you want 50 pounds? We?ll get to that. Just hang on.

3.The selector pin

Here?s the ingenious part of the PowerBlocks. The selector pin is a pair of metal rods that slips between the sides of the weight plates. To make a set of fifteen pound dumbbells, you just slide the selector pin into place beneath the first set of weight plates. Want twenty-five? Slide the selector pin under the second set of weight plates. That?s simple enough, but the PowerBlocks folks have made it even simpler ? they color-coded it. Each set of weight plates is colored a different color. A chart that comes with the PowerBlocks lists the weights and colors so you know at a glance where to slip the selector pin if you want 75 pounds.

4.Adder weights

So you want a set of 50 pound dumbbells but the PowerBlocks only increase in ten pound increments? The PowerBlocks folks thought of that, too. Each PowerBlock has a pair of cylinder slots in the core. They?re made to hold a pair of silver cylinders called adder weights. The adder weights give you the ability to add weights in increments of 2.5 pounds ? the weight of each adder. That means that you can increase the weight of the PowerBlock from 5 to 7.5 pounds by adding one adder weight, or to ten by adding two. So you want fifty pound dumbbells? Slip both adder weights into their slots, and set the selector pin to 45. Voila! You now have a fifty pound dumbbell.

More PowerBlock Options

You can buy PowerBlock dumbbell systems in seven different sets ranging from the SportBlock (goes from 3 pounds to 21 pounds in 3 pound increments) to the Elite Set 5-130 that lets you go from five pounds to 130 pounds per dumbbell in five OR ten pound increments. With the PowerBlock dumbbell system you can have a full rack of dumbbells in no more space than a milk crate uses. How does that compare to conventional dumbbells or other adjustable dumbbell sets? Take a look:

1 SportBlock 3-21 Total weight: 42 pounds

7 pair?s adjustable dumbbells ? 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21 pounds Total weight: 168 pounds

14 fixed dumbbells, 2 each 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 pounds Total weight: 168 pounds

That?s a lot of space saving right there. But it really adds up when you look at one of the larger sets. With the Elite 5-130, you?ve got the equivalent of 37 pairs of dumbbells or 4,820 pounds of free weights in a block that?s about the size of a pair of shoe boxes.

Add Barbells to Your PowerBlock

Trainers will tell you that you?ll get your best training by alternating between dumbbells and barbells for weight lifting. With PowerBlocks, you don?t have to go out and buy a whole new set of weights to have both dumbbells and barbells. Some of the PowerBlock sets can be combined with a special bar that allows you to turn your SportBlock or Personal Block into a set of barbells just as easily as you change the weight ? and they?ll still fit on your bookshelf.

But if you want something a little more stylish, you can also purchase an optional stand for the PowerBlock that holds your dumbbells at just the right height for lifting. In addition, several of the sets can be expanded to add more weight by purchasing an add-on kit.

If you?re thinking of adding adjustable dumbbells to your home gym, or want to replace the bulky set you own now, the PowerBlock is definitely worth a look.

Causes of the Digestive Disorders Troubling You

?It is estimated that some form of digestive disorder affects more than 100 million people in America. That is more than half of the U.S. population.?
-Life Extension web site, August 2006

Digestive disorders are common because they take many forms. Your entire digestive tract, from your mouth to your colon, could potentially fall prey to digestive disorders. The best way to deal with digestive disorders troubling you is to never have them to begin with. In order to do this, we must examine the causes of the most common digestive disorders.

-Nutrition

Low-fiber diets and low fluid intake can lead to digestive disorders. It?s important to drink plenty of water and fluids, and to get a good amount of fiber regularly as part of your diet. Consuming a lot of dairy products can lead to future digestive disorders, as well, so cut back when you can.

-Pregnancy

Simply being pregnant can lead to many very common digestive disorders, many of which thankfully end once the baby is delivered. Your doctor can help you with relief from symptoms of digestive disorders that are baby-friendly.

-Exercise

Getting less exercise than your body needs can lead to digestive disorders, because foods are not being burned away and fat is not being burned off as much or as often as needed.

-Stress

Too much stress can affect all your body?s systems, including your digestive tract. Many digestive disorders, such as ulcers, arise from too much stress. Practice relaxation techniques to avoid this consequence.

-Resisting Your Body?s Natural Urges

Lots of people dislike using public restrooms, and for good reason. However, resisting your body?s natural urges to have bowel movements for any reason can lead to much more painful digestive disorders.

-Medications

Some medications, and misuse of medications, can lead to troubling digestive disorders. The overuse of laxatives, for instance, can cause serious future problems in digestion. Antacid medications that contain calcium or aluminum can create digestive disorders, and some medicines such a antidepressants, iron pills, and pain medication can create digestive troubles as well.

Types of Digestive Disorders

The most common types of the digestive disorders that might be troubling you include temporary problems such as constipation and heartburn. However, these digestive disorders can blossom into more serious issues such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), Crohn?s Disease, colitis, and hemorrhoids.

Symptoms of Digestive Disorders

There are five basic symptoms associated with all types of digestive disorders. These symptoms include:

-Bloating

A feeling of heaviness or fullness accompanied by a swelling look in the trunk of the body, bloating is a very often reported symptom of many digestive disorders.

-Abdominal Pain

Pain in the abdomen, or stomach, is common to many. When this pain is frequent or chronic, however, it could be the harbinger of a more serious digestive disorder.

-Nausea/Vomiting

The inability to keep foods down, or the feeling of an upset stomach after eating, can be symptoms of digestive disorders. Should nausea and vomiting occur on anything more than a rare occasion, you should consult with a physician.

-Constipation

Frequent constipation could be symptoms of digestive disorders such as IBS or Crohn?s Disease, and should be reported to a physician.

-Diarrhea

Should this symptom occur frequently, you should consult with your family doctor. Frequent diarrhea often heralds a digestive disorder, and in most cases symptoms of diarrhea are easily treated.

Treatment Options for Troubling Digestive Disorders

Causes of Cystic Acne

The causes of cystic acne are an overproduction of sebum and a buildup of bacteria in the skin, which may be influenced by the male hormone androgen. Similar to common breakouts, acne is considered cystic when it is severe and causes deep, inflamed and painful legions.

Increased oil production and hormonal changes, such as are found in teenagers, prove too much for the skin to handle and the problem often becomes uncontrollable. Heredity can play a part in just how pronounced the problem is. If a parent suffered from severe acne, most likely the children will be more prone to cystic acne also. Nodules and cysts that produce inflammation and pus on the skin are common symptoms. These lesions can last for months and cause pain and damage to the skin.

Sufferers wonder how to get rid of cystic acne. A good starting point is getting medical assistance and guidance from a dermatologist. He or she might recommend acne surgery, which entails draining and extracting acne lesions. A dermatologist uses sterile instruments to extract imbedded lesions that have not responded to traditional treatments. Another answer to how to get rid of cystic acne is Interlesional Corticosteroid Injections. A dermatologist will inject a mild corticosteroid directly into an inflamed legion. This causes elimination of the cyst slowly over a period of a few days.

No matter what the causes of cystic acne, Isotretinoin can also work to clear up problem skin. Sold as Accutane, it is a prescription drug derived from a man-made form of vitamin A. It is a pill, taken orally, for a range of about 5 to 6 months that lessens the production of sebum in the pores. Accutane has many benefits as well as many side effects, so it's important to learn about these before beginning treatment. But, this drug may be one answer to how to get rid of cystic acne. Accutane?s benefit is clear skin that lasts for years, sometimes with only one treatment. A second treatment may be taken if results are not as positive as the patient desires.

While the exact causes of cystic acne remain unknown, there are ways to safely and effectively treat the problem if you or your child experiences it. Speak to your dermatologist and find out how to get rid of cystic acne once and for all.

Pennsylvania has a moderate rate of increase in diabetes hospitalizations, accounting less than 1 per cent over the last two years, however, diabetes is a serious problem in this region. An amount of 8 per cent of adults of this state is affected by diabetes, which is 1 per cent above the 7 per cent people affected throughout the country. Moreover patients from various counties in Western Pennsylvania have high rates of end-stage kidney disease, one complication of diabetes.

The above mentioned situation alongwith the continuos growing rate in diabetes hospitalizations which increased 9 per cent in the past five years to 23,725 during 2004, make them create a new health program to reduce health care costs through a initiative of health coaches.

According to a study from the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council, hospitalizations generated more than $673 million in hospital charges last year alone, although 40 per cent of these are paid by health plans.

The main idea of this new iniciative is to lower the health care costs associated with employees with diabetes and to keep them out of the hospital, but on the job at same time.

This iniciative will start in January, and will provide ?health coaches? to 4,200 diabetic employees at 10 companies in the region, under a program that will be launched by the Pittsburgh Business Group on Health, a coalition that includes human resources and benefits executives from 62 area companies.

In the new program, employees who volunteer to participate will have counseling sessions with pharmacists about using diabetic medications. Health coaches will check patients are getting the tests needed to monitor their condition and are following recommendations about diet and exercise.

The Basics of Migraines

A migraine, despite popular belief, isn't simply a type of headache. Instead, migraines are a disease, with headaches being one of the main symptoms. During a migraine episode, cranial blood vessels both expand and narrow, causing a great deal of pain. The tissue surrounding the brain also becomes inflamed, compounding the pain into something even more severe. While a headache is usually the most noticeable and common indication of a migraine, other symptoms such as nausea, blurred vision, loss of appetite, and fatigue do occur. This plethora of symptoms often sets headaches caused by a migraine apart from headaches caused by something else.

What They Feel Like
A headache caused by a migraine is often among the most severe of headaches. The pain is both extreme and immobilizing. While it often begins with dull aching, it gradually evolves into pounding pain. The pain can feel as though it's only on one side, or it can feel like the entire head is under duress. It can even feel as though it's alternating among several different areas.

The pain tends to peak and then subside, but its point of climax can vary. Some people may have a migraine for four hours, while others may have one for three days. The same can be said for the frequency at which migraines appear. Some people may have only one or two in their entire lifetime, while other people may average three or four a week.

What Causes Them
Migraines are genetic, making it harder to avoid them altogether. However, they are not only genetic; people without a family history of migraines can get them as well. This is because migraines are also related to changes in the brain. People with other medical conditions, such as asthma, certain sleep disorders, high blood pressure, and chronic fatigue syndrome are at a higher risk for migraines.

Many people may be genetically predisposed to migraines and not know it. Because of this, certain triggers are able to cause migraines, placing the blame on both internal and external factors. Some triggers that may cause migraines include certain food preservatives, excessive caffeine consumption, change in the weather, menstrual periods, and skipping meals. Emotional stress is often reported as the most common trigger of migraines. This is because the brain releases certain chemicals in response to stressful situations. When these chemicals are released, vascular changes occur, sometimes causing a migraine. The muscle tension that involves this stress, in addition, can compound the migraine's severity, worsening an already painful situation.

Types of Migraines
The two types of migraines are differentiated by the symptoms that signal their approach. A migraine with aura, also known as a classic migraine, is a migraine that involves a physiological sign that a migraine is imminent. These warning signs usually occur within an hour of the migraine and last for a few minutes up to a full hour. They can include seeing bright flashing light, loss of vision (particularly peripheral vision), blind spots, inability of the eyes to focus, ringing in the ears, a funny taste in the mouth, or just an overall strange feeling.

Migraines without aura, also known as a common migraine, occur more often. While these don't typically possess the warning signs of the classic migraine, most people who get common migraines are given a vague indication that they're coming. A person may feel anxious, depressed, or generally tired for several hours prior to a common migraine.

Treatment of Migraines
Scientists have yet to discover a cure for migraines. But, treatment of them is available. Many people find that over-the-counter pain medication, abortive medications, and preventive medications all help to relieve discomfort. Biofeedback, a form of therapy that helps people deal more adequately with stressful situations, may also be helpful.

People who notice that certain behaviors cause more frequent migraines may benefit from keeping a headache diary, and noting what they eat, drink, and do in the hours directly preceding a migraine. This may help people to become aware of migraine triggers, ultimately giving them the ability to avoid these triggers in the future.

And, just as getting adequate rest, eating well, and getting regular exercise can alleviate many health problems, these three factors can also help migraines occur much less often.

Causes of Halitosis

Most people think that bad breath is caused only by poor dental hygiene. However, chronic bad breath,a condition known as halitosis, can stem from various medical problems, dry mouth and even the Atkins diet.

If you have a consistent bad breath problem it is wise to visit your dentist in order to determine the cause of the problem. There are several possible reasons for bad breath such as dental decay, or gum disease. The dentist can diagnose other problems which cause bad breath including yeast infections of the mouth, dental caries, poorly fitting dental appliances and periodontal disease.

The medical condition dry mouth - also called xerostomia - can also cause bad breath.Anything that dries the mouth makes bad breath worse, because saliva cleanses the mouth. When there is not enough saliva in your mouth to wash away food particles and bacteria, bad breath can result.Alcohol, alcohol-containing mouthwashes, fasting and heavy exercise can all result in a dry mouth and worsen a bad breath problem.Drugs associated with producing dry mouth may also produce bad breath - antidepressants, blood pressure treatments, diuretics and antihistamines.

Bacteria on the back of the tongue are one of the commonest causes of bad breath. The bacteria produces a number of odors including volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) which are believed to be the major cause of halitosis. Some people with bad breath have a white or grayish coating on their tongue.Tongue cleaning is by far the most effective way of combating bad breath.

Many people have occasional bad breath, often on first awakening,or following an evening of alcoholic partying.Certain foods like garlic and onions can produce bad breath but only on a temporary basis.

A deficiency of vitamin B and zinc may be the cause of your bad breath.Smoking can also cause bad breath, reduce your ability to taste foods, stain teeth and irritate gum tissues.

Many medical problems can have bad breath as a side effect - such as kidney disease, cancer, lung problems, infections of the throat, tuberculosis, gastroesophageal reflux, uncontrolled diabetes, allergies and sinusitis.

Most toothpastes can be a cause of bad breath because the stuff that makes the foam actually promotes production of volatile sulfur compounds. Many of the mints and washes people use to combat halitosis dry out gum tissue and only cover bad breath.

However, mouthwashes containing chlorine dioxide are very effective at combating bad breath.

The Bad Breath Test

It is possible to suffer from bad breath without being aware of it.Some people suggest a simple test which you can do yourself to detect bad breath. The best way to find out if you have bad breath is to lick your wrist, wait ten seconds, and then smell your wrist.

There are individuals who suffer from halitophobia and believe that they have bad breath, but no physical or social evidence exists to suggest that halitosis is present.

What Can You Do?

Avoid bad breath by drinking lots of water.Drink peppermint tea, spiked with a pinch of anise or cinnamon.

One traditional bad breath cure which is backed up by modern research is yoghurt. Japanese researchers found eating the yoghurt reduced levels of hydrogen sulfide - a major cause of bad breath.

If you get a case of bad breath which persists despite good oral hygiene, consult your dentist and physician.

The Basics of Healthy Hair

Is your hair dry and brittle? Is it greasy and flat? Puffy, stringy, frizzy, the list goes on and on. There are so many things that can go wrong with our hair. So here are the basics thing to keep your hair healthy and in beautiful condition.

Scrub-a-dub-dub! Everyone knows that you have to shampoo your hair, otherwise you have tons of gross buildup and it just won't cooperate. Conditioner is just as important otherwise you won't even be able to comb your hair, much less style it. It's very important to pick a quality shampoo and conditioner fit for your hair type. Say you have color-treated hair; you get color-protective shampoo and conditioner. Makes sense right? Right. Now, its pretty much just lather, rinse, (only repeat for VERY dirty oily hair) condition, and rinse again. But there are some helpful tricks to it. When you shampoo, don?t be too rough with your hair or you'll damage the cuticle. Always be sure the shampoo is completely rinsed. When conditioning, focus on the ends of your hair as they are most prone to breakage and therefore tangles. The water should be cold when you do the last rinse out with your conditioner. It helps seal the cuticle (basically, hair strand), making it so your hair appears shinier.

Once your hair is clean and fresh, you'll probably want to use a shine serum or detangling solution on it. Gently pat your hair dry as much as possible with your towel and squeeze a small amount of product into your hand. I like Biosilk Silk Therapy Treatment. Massage the product into your hair gently, again focusing mostly on the ends. Avoid the roots, as they can look greasy with shine serum on them. Now it's time for blow-drying. If you have curly hair, you'll want to use a diffuser so you don?t frizz your curls. Otherwise, you shouldn't need any attachments. Pointing the nozzle down, blow-dry your hair from five inches away. Make sure not to hold it in one spot, or it'll get fried. Once hair is semi-dry, lift hair in sections with your fingers and blow-dry a section at a time. This will keep your hair from being flat when it's done being blow-dried.

Flipped-out or curled under? Spiraled, waved? Now you have to decide what you want to day with you hair unless you like it just blow-dried. Check out iVillage's Virtual Hairstylist below for some great ideas. They even tell you how to do it! Is that not the coolest thing ever?!?

You Can't Get Fit At Work Can You?

You better believe you can.

In fact, in today?s world of 60 plus hour work weeks, less time off, more stress, increased workload (at the office and at home)?you had better figure out how to do some kind of exercise while at work to get yourself in shape.

There are so many little things that you can do while at work to keep yourself fit?you just have to use your imagination.

You have some of that, don?t you?

Of course you do.

Unfortunately, most people just sloth away in front of their computer all day, when they could be taking just a few minutes to get themselves in better shape.

How do you do it?

I thought you?d never ask???..

Well, since most people work in a place with stairs????..

You get what I?m sayin? (lol),

Yep, you guessed it??take the stairs!

I know, I know, you can stop with the applause, that is truly life changing, isn?t it.

Ok, maybe not.

But seriously, taking the stairs is an absolutely wonderful way to help you out.

Don?t be lazy, don?t always take the elevator.

Wait a minute???..

I can hear the complaints already,

I work on the 53rd floor Chris, are you nuts???

Now, let?s use some common sense here??? Am I asking you to walk up all 53 flights of stairs?

Of course not!!!

Unless you want to show up to work drenched in sweat (lol).

Hey, it?s your call.

Ride up to the 49th floor, and then walk the other four.

Brilliant.

Then, to take a break during the workday, walk up/down a couple of flights of stairs, maybe even give it a light jog for at least one of those flights. Do this 2,3,4 times a day, and at least you won?t be like your co-workers who plant their butt in their computer chair for 8 plus hours a day.

How about another exercise to do at work?

Pushups.

HUH? You may be saying.

Well, all you need to do is to put both your hands on the edge of your desk, (you can vary the hand position, as this will hit different muscles) get in a pushup position (your body will be diagonal ? feet on the floor and hands on the desk), and crank out some pushups. You don?t need to get on the floor, get dirty, or make a big deal about it. Just get your butt up off your chair, get into position on your desk, and start busting out some pushups. This is great for a nice little pick me up ? especially when you?ve been staring at your computer screen for a few hours. You can try to do 2-3 sets at once, or just spread a few sets out during the day.

I would LOVE to tell you some more tips, but it?s getting late, and I need to go. These two things are all you need to start. Start them! Don?t wait until you get every single tip, trick, and secret???.and THEN start to exercise. It?s too late. Start now??see how it goes (don?t worry, it will be great). Use your creative brain (I know you all have one!), to think of other ideas?..I bet you can find a multitude of them, some that are probably so easy.

Get excited and get started now??..I?ll talk to you soon.

There is nothing worse than being out and your hearing aid batteries go flat. Not only is this frustrating, it can also be dangerous. So one accessory you will need to know something about is hearing aid batteries and how to care for them so that they last as long as possible.

There are a number of excellent brands of hearing aid batteries on the market including Rayovac and Energizer. When shopping for batteries, keep in mind that they come in two types which are zinc-air and mercury. You will find that most people use zinc air batteries because they tend to have a longer shelf life. There is nothing worse than having you aid batteries die on you just when you need them. Unlike hearing aid prices that can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars, batteries are competitively priced.

Zinc air hearing aid batteries can last up to 2 ? times longer than mercury batteries and are activated by exposure to air once you pull off the tab. We all know that mercury based products are very bad for the environment so it won?t be surprising to see these batteries banded in the near future. It doesn?t matter if you where a digital hearing aid or analog hearing aid, you will still need batteries for it. Most people prefer disposable batteries for their hearing aids but rechargeable batteries are also available. With hearing aid prices being quite expensive, you want to make sure that you have good batteries in them to ensure optimum performance from your hearing aid.

Some important tips to remember when installing new batteries in your hearing aids is to take the tab off and give your new batteries some time to ramp up before putting them into your hearing aids. Your new batteries should ramp up in a minute or two and then it will be ready for installation. If you put a brand new battery into your hearing aid without giving it ramp up time, it may cause your aid to beep signaling that the battery is dead. To avoid this, just wait a minute or two before replacing your hearing aid batteries. Because of hearing aid prices these days, many people use drying kits. If you do and you also use zinc-air batteries, it is recommended that you take the batteries our before placing your hearing aid in they dry kit.

Drying kits will dry up your battery?s electrolyte. If this happens, your will shorten the life of your battery. If you wear digital hearing aids with noise circuits that adjust themselves automatically and you are in a noisy atmosphere, your hearing aid battery drain can be up to two or three times more than if you are in a quieter environment. Significant battery drain can also occur when you in a place with high humidity.

Hearing aid manufactures such as Starkey, Siemens and Phonak all have different ratings for noise levels so one may consider a situation a noisy environment where another may not. You best bet is to check with your audiologist to get more detailed information. Partial deafness can be frustrating, as can hearing aid prices. The last thing you want to be concerned about are hearing aid batteries. We hope we have given you enough information to make a wise buying decision as well as information on how to care for your batteries.

Calcium Sources

Though much has been said about the benefits of calcium found mainly in dairy products, the truth is that a large part of the world doesn?t depend on dairy products for its calcium intake but on plants. Few people know that calcium is present in all foods in varying quantities. For instance, dark green leafy vegetables such as broccoli, collard greens, kale, bok choy and dandelion greens and okra and sweet potatoes are as rich in calcium as fruit including oranges, pears, raisins, prunes, apricots, dates and dried figs. In fact, just one cup of broccoli is equal in calcium content to a quarter of the recommendations of the U.S.RDA.

Rich deposits of calcium are also found in a variety of nuts and seeds such as chestnuts, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts, filberts, and sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. Fish and seafood such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, flounder, shrimp, clams and oysters are high repositories of calcium. They include. Besides, calcium is also found in amaranth, quinoa, oats and barley; and in peas, beans, soy products, seaweeds, sprouts and blackstrap molasses. Alfalfa, cayenne, chamomile, kelp and lemongrass are some herbs rich in calcium.

Foods such as turnip greens, spinach, almonds, cashews, rhubarb, and beet, though high in calcium, are also high in oxalic acid, which hinders calcium absorption. When such substances come together in the intestines, the resulting insoluble salts cannot be digested. Adding a teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar to the cooking helps ease the problem.

If you can?t get a continuously good supply of calcium-rich foods, take a calcium supplement with your meals, in powdered form. Give it to your family too but first check the table below for dosages:

Infants: 600 mg/day

Children (up to age 10): 800-1200 mg/day

Adults (up to age 35): 1200 mg/day

Exercise Bikes What's on the Market

There are available two types of exercise bikes. The upright bike is stationary and it resembles a typical road bike. Added stress is put on the joints because the pedals are positioned below the rider. The pedals of the recumbent bike are out in front of the rider so that pedaling is more natural and less stressful on the hips and knees and the seat resembles a chair.

There are other styles of bikes available as well. There are double action upright exercise bikes that have moveable handlebars or arm handles. Your arms as well as your legs are used on this bike. This bike will provide you with aerobic activity and upper body toning. Some variety can be found with resistance bikes also.

The resistance on Direct tension bikes can be adjusted manually. An exercise bike with flywheels has a cycling very much like regular biking. The resistance of air resistance bikes get it by pedaling against the airflow of a fan blade.

Out of all resistance exercise bikes, the magnetic frictionless resistance bikes are the most sophisticated. Resistance bikes are the most advanced resistance bikes. A greater variety of workout levels can be had on this bikes.

The feedback mechanisms show the following readouts: speed, time, distance, total calories and fat burned, program mode, resistance levels, pulse, heart rate, and work out level (RPM, watts, METS, mpm?s, and mph/kph). Your needs and wants will determine the bike you choose buy. Your choice of bikes will also depend on the type of workout you want.

You will get a great cardio workout that focuses on the quadriceps. On a recumbent bike you are seated in a reclining position. Your legs are out in front of you and your back is supported by the seat. The hamstrings and the glutes are given a workout. A recumbent bike is much easier on your lower back.

Upright bikes could come with handlebars the move back and forth in a rowing like motion. This motion will work your arms, your chest, your abs and your back muscles. These bikes will give you a terrific cardiovascular workout as well as a calorie burning experience.

Your size should be matched to the bike. Exercise bikes can be easily adjusted for almost any body type. Exercise bikes are used by people for a variety of reasons. In the off season, cyclists often use them to maintain their level of fitness. Because many people feel embarrassed about exercising in front of people they use them at home.

To promote healing and the regaining of the use of knee and hip joints, physical therapy programs also use exercise bikes. They are also used by some cardiac rehabilitation programs to improve endurance and greater cardiac health.

If you go to Wal-mart, Sears, or sports stores and if you look online you will be able to buy an exercise bike. When buying them from a store it?s much easier to get a bike that matches your space your budget, and your body size. You might not always get what you want when getting online.

The bike may be bigger or smaller and without the exact specs than what you ordered. Ordering online has another issue, the taking delivery of your order. In most cases the delivery company will leave it at your door and you will have to bring it in and put it together.

Unless you contract with someone to do the entire process including setting it up, this is also true of buying it in a store. Service contracts can be purchased in stores like Sears, in case there is a problem. Regardless of your reasons for buying an exercise bike it will only work if you use it.

As with any exercise program check with your doctor and make sure that you are healthy enough to exercise. Your endurance will improve if you start out slow. Be healthy, have fun, and be safe.

Cholesterol Gallstones

Gallsontes are crystalline bodies that are formed inside of the body by accretion (growth or increase in size by gradual external addition) or concretion (a spherical or ellipsoidal nodule formed by accumulation of mineral matter after deposition of sediment) of normal and abnormal bile components.

The largest single makeup of gallstones are cholesterol stones, which are generally green, but have been found to be white/yellow in color. Cholesterol stones account for approximately 80 percet of all gallstones, and are composed primarily of cholesterol.

The remaining twenty percent is composed of pigment stones. Pigment stones are small, dark stones that are composed of calcium salts that can be found in bile. Both cholesterol stones and pigment stones make up gall stones. There is alot of risks that are apparent with pigment stones such as cirrhosis, biliary tract infections, and hereditary blood cell disorders, such as sickle cell anemia.

Although there is the two distinct stones above, it isn't unusual for stones to exist that are mixed in origin. Gallstones aren't limited to one particular section - they can occur anywhere within the bilary tree. The bilary tree includes the gallbladder and the common bile duct. Gallstones vary greatly in size and numbers. It is possible for the gallbladder to develop one single stone that is as big as golfball, or for it to create several thousand which can be as small as a grain of sand.

For years, there has been concern that antibiotics are overprescribed, and with good cause. Despite clear guidelines calling for prior testing, physicians prescribed antibiotics in 53 percent of sore throat cases in children, researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and Children's Hospital Boston found in a recent study.

This represents significantly more prescriptions than warranted for actual rates -- 15-36 percent -- of strep throat among kids with sore throat. Furthermore, almost half of those prescriptions were given in the absence of a test. Details of this research appear in the November 9, 2005, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Group A streptococcal pharyngitis, or strep throat, is the most common cause of sore throat for which antibiotics are indicated. However, many leading health organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics say that a common strep test should be performed prior to prescribing recommended antibiotics.

Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria

This study demonstrates that children with sore throat are frequently given unnecessary antibiotics, says lead author Jeffrey A. Linder, MD, MPH, a BWH internist.

This overprescribing of antibiotics could be easily remedied by following known guidelines, which include doing a simple, inexpensive strep test, he adds.

This is critical for not just children but all patients, Dr. Linder notes, as unnecessary prescription of antibiotics can lead to a variety of issues, including increased costs, the potential development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and adverse drug effects.

Researchers analyzed data from children aged 3 to 17 years from 1995 to 2003 with sore throat who visited office-based physicians, hospital outpatient departments and emergency departments.

Among an estimated 7.3 million visits for sore throat over this time period, physicians prescribed antibiotics in 53 percent of the cases, the researchers found.

Just 15 to 36 percent of children with sore throat actually have the strep throat bacterium, according to estimates. But only 53 percent of those who were given the antibiotics had been tested first.

Testing Is Underused

Over the eight-year time period of the study, physicians prescribed antibiotics less frequently, the researchers found, which suggests an encouraging trend. In 1995, 66 percent of cases were given antibiotics, decreasing to 54 percent of cases in 2003.

Still, there was no decrease in the prescribing of non-recommended antibiotics, which made up 27 percent of antibiotic prescriptions, Dr. Linder points out. Recommended antibiotics for the treatment of strep throat are penicillin, amoxicillin, erythromycin and first-generation cephalosporins.

Strep testing is underused, and physicians should be ordering this important diagnostic test before prescribing antibiotics to kids with sore throat, emphasizes Dr. Linder.

Instead of writing a prescription, physicians should order a test and make sure they are treating kids' symptoms by offering a pain medication like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, he advises.

Why Should You Meditate?

Everyone?s mind needs a little downtime. We all need time to focus on one task, instead of multi-tasking all day and night. In fact, your mind doesn?t take a complete rest when you sleep. Your mind moves from dream to dream for about two hours per night.

Your mind needs rest and a vacation. Have you ever noticed that when you take a vacation, you come back with fresh ideas, a better attitude, and establish clear priorities? This is due to getting some time to relax and reflect on your life. The time off allows you to think clearly.

Our problem stems from being so busy that we lose touch with our inner self. We fill our time with too many activities to realistically accomplish them. Companies do this to their employees, but we voluntarily do it to ourselves. You have the ability to take control of your own life, and the solution is as simple as daily meditation sessions.

The answers to our problems are within ourselves, but many of us don?t want to look that deep, for fear of what we might learn about ourselves. It is always easier to blame outside forces for our problems. However, closing down outside distractions and listening to our inner voice is natural medicine.

Who knows? You could actually find yourself and your identity. This could lead you to make changes and put ideas into action. All of this progress could happen as a result of you making a ?meditation appointment? with yourself. It only takes 20 to 30 minutes a day for a single meditation session.

There has never been a better time to meditate than right now. People have so much ?going on,? these days; the only time they stop is when they are sick. The problem is how busy will people be in 20 years from now? Now you see why having downtime is so important.

Information about meditation techniques is widely available in books, DVD?s, and CD?s. You don?t have to join a monastery, and live according to a strict moral code, with multitudes of rules, but you do need the self-discipline to continue a daily practice.

Strangely - self-discipline, alone, will keep the masses away from this ancient practice, which has survived a battery of tests and modern scrutiny. This is amazing when you think about the rewards of self-mastery, contentment, and mindfulness, which result from daily meditation practice.

Who Gets Parkinson's Disease?

Parkinson's Disease affects generally elder adults, among about 90% of the known cases are diagnosed in people over the age of 60. Within that population, there is a small amount of variance, with the danger increasing from age 60 through age 75, and then going down sharply. Currently, Parkinson's Disease is known to affect about 3% of the population over the age of 65. With present statistics and the probable aging of the population, authorities think that that percentage will double in the next 40 years.

When those with mild symptoms of Parkinsons (symptoms of Parkinson's Disease that may be caused by other things, or could develop into Parkinson's Disease), those numbers increase dramatically. 15% of those between the ages of 60 and 74 have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. Between the ages of 75 and 84, that percentage rises to almost 30%.

However, when you look at it in terms of inception of symptoms, the picture changes. Fewer than 10% of new cases of Parkinson's disease are diagnosed in younger adults - under age 40. The majority of new diagnoses of Parkinson's disease are made between the ages of 60 and 75. After age 85, the danger of developing Parkinson's Disease then seems to fall off dramatically.

What are the factors that effect diagnoses?

Gender

Men appear to be at greater risk of developing Parkinson's Disease than women. Men have to deal with about double the risk of developing Parkinson's Disease as women in any age group. Scientists think that estrogens may play a function in protecting the body from the chemical changes that occur in Parkinson's Disease. This is further borne out by two facts - women who've had hysterectomies have a somewhat higher rate of Parkinson's Disease, and women who've had estrogen replacement therapy have a lower rate of Parkinson's Disease than other women their age.

Parkinson's Disease seems to growth more quickly in men than women according to one study, and another found a difference in the way that symptoms present. Men are more prone to rigidity and tremor, and women more at danger from gait disturbance and shuffling.

Ethnicity

Caucasians have a higher danger of developing Parkinson's Disease than either African Americans or Asian Americans. People of European descent appear most prone to usual Parkinson's Disease, but some studies hint at that non-Caucasians may be more at risk for a particular type of non-typical Parkinsonis that causes a disturbance in judgment.

Heredity

In a small percentage of cases, family history may play a part in the inception of Parkinson's Disease. People who have parents or brothers and sisters who had young-onset Parkinson's Disease, in which symptoms develop before the age of 40, are more probable to develop Parkinson's Disease than others their age. When Parkinson's Disease was diagnosed at older ages, family history looks like it's to play no part.

Cigarette Smokers

Oddly, cigarette smokers appear to have a diminished incidence of Parkinson's Disease, which has led researchers to explore the probability that nicotine may give some protection from the fluctuations caused by Parkinson's Disease. They are quick to point out that the other health problems associated with cigarette smoking are far too significant to think cigarette smoking as a way to avoid getting Parkinson's Disease.

Coffee Drinkers

Caffeine also seems to have a protective result against Parkinson's Disease. A study of Japanese-American men suggested that those who commonly drank coffee ran a lesser risk of developing Parkinson's Disease than other men their age. The more coffee they consumed, the lower the risk.

Eosinophilic pneumonia is a very rare, atypical form of pneumonia that generates lung inflammation, pronounced difficulty in breathing and eosinophilic reactions at pulmonary level. Although the actual causes of eosinophilic pneumonia remain unknown, the accumulation of eosinophils inside the lungs triggered by the disease reveals the infectious character of this type of pneumonia. Eosinophils are a type of white cells that have an important role in fighting infectious agents such as bacteria.

Even though medical scientists haven?t yet identified the specific infectious organisms responsible for causing the disease, it is believed that eosinophilic pneumonia is caused by infection with atypical bacteria. This hypothesis is supported by the unusual eosinophilic response triggered by the disease at pulmonary level. Eosinophilic pneumonia is a severe type of pulmonary disease that generates pronounced impairments of the lower respiratory tract. In the absence of proper medical care, this type of pneumonia can even lead to complete respiratory failure, causing death by asphyxiation.

Due to the fact that eosinophilic pneumonia generates a wide range of physical manifestations and due to the variety of its presumptive underlying causes, the disease is also referred to as a syndrome. The unknown etiology of eosinophilic pneumonia and the scarce amount of data regarding the occurence and the progression of the disease render medical scientists unable to timely diagnose this syndrome. There is also no effective, specific cure for eosinophilic pneumonia in present. However, medical reports indicate that most patients with eosinophilic pneumonia can be recovered from the disease with existent medication treatments, prompt diagnosis and medical intervention greatly increasing patients? chances of survival.

Recent medical reports describing the occurrence and the progression of eosinophilic pneumonia among American soldiers deployed in Iraq may also point to an endemic character of the syndrome. Epidemiologists and biologists theorize that eosinophilic pneumonia may be triggered by infectious factors characteristic to certain territorial regions. The epidemic outbreak among the U.S. military personnel recently deployed in Iraq also suggests a highly contagious nature of eosinophilic pneumonia. Medical reports also incriminate factors such as smoking and prolonged exposure to sand and dust as potential underlying causes of the syndrome.

The medical staff that recently accompanied US military personnel during a set of missions in Iraq described a rapid onset of eosinophilic pneumonia in 18 American soldiers. Although there were only 18 cases of eosinophilic pneumonia identified among 180.000 soldiers, the syndrome generated exacerbated symptoms in all affected persons. The majority of patients were men, and the highest incidence of eosinophilic pneumonia was registered among young patients, with an average age of 22.

Although the actual causes of the outbreak are still unknown, doctors established connections between smoking and the occurrence of eosinophilic pneumonia among the 18 members of military personnel. All the affected people were smokers, most of them recently starting to use tobacco. Apart from this common feature, doctors were unable to identify other potential risk factors of the disease. Strangely enough, epidemiologic tests revealed no signs of pulmonary infection, thus discriminating the implication of bacteria in triggering eosinophilic pneumonia. Despite this fact, all patients presented a pronounced eosinophilic response, most of them developing extra-pulmonary eosinophilia as well.

Two of the affected patients eventually died due to complications, while the other patients responded well to prolonged treatment with corticosteroids. Over a period of three months of treatment, very few patients still presented signs of respiratory problems. All 16 patients were completely recovered from the disease after completing the prescribed treatment. None of the patients remained with permanent impairments of the respiratory system and there were no reported cases of relapse.

Simple Carbs For Rookies

Now that you know the importance of good carbohydrates, you are going to learn about one of your body`s worst enemies, simple carbs. Simple carbs are everywhere and can easily be consumed if you are not careful with your food choices. Distinguishing the difference between complex and simple carbs is also confusing. A good way to remember is by the s`s. Simple and sugar both begin with an s and sugar is what you want to avoid right? So avoid simple carbs.

Simple carbs are basically just sugars added to processed foods. You can find them in soda`s, honey, cakes, many breakfast cereals, and even beer. Don`t be fooled into buying something that is fat free. Educate yourself by reading food labels on what is healthy and what is junk. Let`s say that we are going to have a bowl of Corn Flakes. Sure, there is not much fat in them but when the first words on the list of ingredients say enriched wheat flour, or high fructose corn syrup, you have a problem. You should be looking for the words whole grain wheat, instead.

If your diet consists mostly of simple carbs, do not expect to lose any fat. Your energy levels will be so low that you feel the need to be eating just to keep awake. So why are you writing an entire article on simple carbs if they are bad for me, you may ask. Well simple carbs have positives to them.

After a hard day of training or working at a strenuous labored job, your body needs glycogen and wants it fast. This is when an insulin spike becomes useful. An insulin spike is repleneshing however many calories you`ve burnt throughout the workout. The nutrients you use to replenish your body should be a three to one ratio of simple carbs to protein. The most commonly used post workout simple carb is dextrose, which is the main ingredient in Gatorade powder. If you don`t have access to dextrose, then a simple liquid carb, such as orange juice, will work just fine.

Simple carbs are useful but they can become your worst enemy if you consume them at the wrong times. Almost everything you do in bodybuilding needs to be timed perfectly. There`s a time to eat, a time to sleep, a time to take your supplements, and even a time to have your post-workout meal. Welcome to the wonderful world of bodybuilding.

Temporary weight loss is easy!

You simply starve yourself on the latest fad diet, and watch those extra pounds disappear...only for them to reappear a short time later. Why does this happen? I believe it is because you have not made any fundamental changes to your behavior, which would result in weight loss. All that has happened is a short term deficit in your calorie intake, has delivered a sudden loss in weight.

The only sustainable solution to obesity is a change in your eating habits. There are two ways to bring about this change. The first is the use of determined willpower. Frankly if your willpower was that strong, you probably would not have a weight problem to start with. You would simply be able to resist and turn down the temptation to eat high calorie foods. The fact that you have a weight problem suggests willpower alone is not the solution.

The second more effective way is to change your attitude towards food, by re-programming your mind. This is most effectively done through a program of hypnosis. The theory being, that you can change your likes and dislikes of certain foods, and adopt healthy lifestyle habits by ?re-wiring? the pathways in your brain. In practice a hypnotist will plant suggestions in your mind, while you are in a deep state of relaxation. These suggestions are deeply embedded in your subconscious mind, and influence your day to day behavior.

For example suggestions may include:

-You enjoy eating low calorie healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables

-You treat your body with the utmost respect, and will not eat food you know is unhealthy for you

-Your find your hunger is satisfied by eating much smaller portions

-You look forward to exercising for 20mins on a daily basis

The net result of this hypnosis process is a change in your behavior that does not require you to use willpower. You?ll start to see changes in your day to day routine, along the lines suggested to your subconscious mind, while under hypnosis. The changes will also be long lasting, and will provide a healthy and safe means of addressing your weight problem.

If you wish to try hypnosis for weight loss, there are basically two options. You can either book an appointment with a qualified hypnotherapist, or try one of the many tape and CD programs available on the internet. Either way I believe this approach to be considerably healthier, and more sustainable than following the latest fad in dieting.

John Perry, has successfully used hypnosis as a solution to a long term weight problem. He now actively promotes the method to help others achieve the same results. You can find out more about the subject at his website: http://www.weightlossbyhypnosis.com

Meditation SelfAcceptance & the Muse

Meditation presents an interesting paradox. It requires humility and acceptance, and yet it results in self-empowerment and increased confidence.

Low self-esteem, which affects and can cripple many creative artists, leads us to believe that we?re not worth much, and therefore our ideas (our songs) probably aren?t either. This low self-esteem is a distant cousin to humility. Humility involves accepting ourselves for who we are, which includes our limitations.

So, our goal is to humbly seek answers from within (meditation) and from above (prayer). Even more important is to accept the answers we receive. Accepting them, even if we don?t like, or are surprised by what we hear, can enrich our lives with peace and contentment. The answers may also hold lots of wonderful ideas for our creative endeavors.

Artists sometimes have the experience of music, words, or other ideas, coming to them from ?out of nowhere?. Where is this ?nowhere? and how can we go in there after all of those great ideas??

How do we get from the point of damaging low self-esteem (giving a microphone and stage to our inner critics and then beating ourselves over the head about what we?re hearing), to genuine humility, meditation, self-acceptance and creative bounty?

Here are some suggestions:

1. Practice gratitude ? When you?re so busy being grateful for all the things you have (your health, your mobility, a few bucks in your pocket, food & shelter, friends & family) and that you?re good at (face it, there?s only a small percentage of the population with musical gifts and even less who are doing anything with them!), your inner critic won?t stand a chance! A great practice (which even Oprah Winfrey is known to promote) is a daily list of things you?re grateful for.

2. Meditation - There are countless books, tapes, videos and classes that teach people how to meditate. Here are some basic tips and I encourage you to explore further.

a. Ask a question ? If you?re busy struggling to figure something out (how those two lines are going to go together, what chord structure to use for the bridge, or how you?re going to make rent this month), try letting go of the struggle and simply letting the question of what to do ?hang out? for a while. Ask it, and then sit quietly and see what answers pop into your head. You can also try writing it on a piece of paper and putting it under your pillow.

b. Toning ? Toning is a way to use your singing voice to achieve extraordinary calm, connection to spirit, connection to others and physical relaxation. Take a deep breath, filling your diaphragm and then your lungs. On exhalation, choose a vowel, pitch and volume that feel comfortable and effortless, and sing a steady tone until you?re ready to take a new breath. For more ideas on using music as a tool of spiritual connection and creativity, I highly recommend the book Essential Musical Intelligence by Dr. Louise Montello.

c. Rest your gaze ? Find something that you find soothing to look at. Some people use a landscape picture, a burning candle, a spot on the wall, a flower?it really can be anything. Focus on the object and gaze at it deeply, letting thoughts come and go and staying present in the moment.

d. Journal ? Write your question at the top of a piece of paper, or on your computer, and answer the question in a stream of consciousness style.

e. Walking Meditation ? Pose your question to yourself at the beginning of your walk. While outdoors, become very present in the moment and notice the things around you. When thoughts and answers flow in to your mind, notice them and then bring your attention back to everything you?re seeing.

f. More Meditation Tips - If you find yourself analyzing or ?figuring things out? during the meditation process, gently let go of that and ask the question again. Don?t judge any of your ideas or answers?simply collect them.

3. Prayer ? prayer allows us to humbly acknowledge that there is a life force bigger than ourselves. Many of the artists I spoke to for my book, ?The Creativity Interviews? (http://www.genuinecoaching.com/creativity-interviews.html), spoke of being a channel for something bigger?that their creative works were simply a communication from spirit, and that their job was simply to express it. That IS a humbling thought!

I hope this article will help you to find inspiration, while letting go of the struggle to find it. I also hope that writing a gratitude list, at least once, will help you to connect with your gifts, strengths and abundance.

There is a variety of reasons why people OVEREAT, but in saying that ALL the possible reasons are emotionally based. You may not agree with this statement but it is a fact. Whilst some people are medically overweight (what ever that means) to some degree there will also be emotional issues around being overweight.

DIET?S will not fix issues that are emotionally based. DIET?S will in fact add to the already existing issue and add to it 10 fold making it virtually impossible for the individual to SUCCEED.

There is a whole Wellness Industry valued at over $28 Billion dedicated to people who OVEREAT, ready to sell us pills, shakes, exercise machines of every description, and yet we still have an overweight society.

The Wellness Industry deals with possible solutions without looking at the REAL cause. We automatically look at fat people and think they just eat junk food and they don?t exercise that?s why they are fat. And whilst that may be true, no one is prepared to fix the CAUSE only the CONSEQUENCE (which is fatness).

What if I told you, that to fix the CAUSE you only need to understand the following statement and then use a simple procedure to fix yourself? NO DRUGS, NO DIETS, NO EXERCISE EQUIPMENT?.just yourself.

The statement is base on the Emotional Freedom Technique, developed by a good friend of mine, Gary Craig. The statement ?The cause of ALL negative emotions is a disruption in the body?s energy system.?

Basically you get rid of the disruption and you nullify the emotion.

* Get rid of the craving (disruption) you nullify the emotion

*Get rid of the way being fat makes you feel (disruption), you nullify the emotion

*Get rid of what the negative feelings of what being fat means to you (disruption) and you nullify the emotion

*Get rid of the baggage that started the process (disruption) and you nullify the emotion

*And so on and so on and so on

Once you start to deal with the CAUSE being the negative emotion about or regarding that CAUSE, then you automatically want to start improving your life.

Emotional Freedom Technique works! Often works where nothing else will, usually rapid, long lasting and gentle, no drugs or equipment involved, easily learned by anyone and can be self applied. My many workshop participants will testify to this.

Children and Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is a condition normally associated with adults. Sadly, many children also suffer the effects of acid reflux. This desease, also referred to as gastro-esophageal reflux, occurs when stomach contents churn and rise up into the esophagus, the tube connecting the stomach with the mouth. A muscle between the esophagus and the stomach, known as the lower esophageal sphincter, is responsible for keeping the stomach closed off until food is swallowed. The lower esophageal sphincter then opens up and allows the food into the stomach before closing again. Although Acid reflux can begin during infancy, it can carry over into early childhood.

Though quite common in children, most people are not aware of it's occurrence. In most cases, the process of gastro-esophageal reflux occurs quickly, the acid comes up into the esophagus and then rapidly goes back down into the stomach. In this case, the esophagus suffers no damage. However, if the stomach acid stays in the esophagus, it damages the esophagus lining. In some cases, the stomach contents rise up all the way into the mouth, only to be swallowed again. This process causes a number of symptoms such as a chronic cough, or a hoarse voice. More serious symptoms can include difficulty in swallowing, wheezing, and chronic pneumonia.

Anyone who suspects that their child is afflicted with acid reflux, should have the child seen by his or her pediatrician. After examining the child and evaluating the symptoms, the doctor may run tests to diagnose whether acid reflux is present. Often, the doctor will begin treatment before testing for acid reflux. In one of the tests, called an upper GI-series X-ray, the child's X-ray is taken after being given a glass of barium to drink. This particular test is successfully used to locate hiatal hernias, blockages, and other gastrointestinal problems.

Another test, thought to be more effective than the X-ray, is the endoscopy. Typically, the child is sedated and put to sleep during the test. An endoscope, which is a thin, flexible plastic tube with a camera attached to the end, is then placed inside the throat. With the help of endoscope, the doctor is directly able to examine the esophagus lining, stomach, and a portion of the small intestine. The endoscopy also allows the doctor to perform a biopsy rather painlessly.

Yet another test, the esophageal pH probe, may also be used. This test consists of using an extremely light, and ultra-thin wire with an acid sensor tip and inserting it through the patient's nose and into the lower esophagus. This method is used to detect and record the presense of stomach acid in the esophagus.

A New Year?s Resolution that always seems to make the top ten list is losing weight. When we make our New Year Resolutions, we often sabotage ourselves by having broad goals. This year, narrow your focus. Break your goals into manageable steps. Make one or two or these steps your New Year?s Resolution.

Have five smaller meals instead of three larger ones. Eating smaller meals, more often, keeps insulin levels regulated. Not only is this healthier but helps to control our appetites and cravings. If it is not practical to have five small meals, have three meals with healthy portions and two snacks.

Drink eight glasses of water. Being sufficiently hydrated helps us to control portion size. We often feel hungry when not hydrated. When tempted to snack, have a glass of water first. If you are still hungry have a snack.

Do not skip meals. Studies have shown that people who skip breakfast consume more calories in a day than those who eat breakfast. When you skip a meal, your metabolism slows and does not rev up again until you eat a meal. If you skip enough meals or consume too few calories your system goes into starvation mode. This is why, when you begin to eat normally, you put the weight back on and more.

Get adequate sleep. New studies are showing a correlation between sleep deprivation and weight gain. Hormones, in our brain, that regulate appetite and feelings of fullness are out of balance when we deprive ourselves of much needed sleep. Also, the more hours we are awake, at night, the more we are tempted to snack. Try to get to sleep earlier at night.

Have more dairy. Recent studies have shown that people who eat low fat dairy, three times a day, lose more weight than individuals consuming the same amount of calories. There appears to be a correlation between the calcium in dairy and the breakdown of fat in cells.

Cut back or eliminate soda. Studies have linked the consumption of soda to osteoporosis, tooth decay, obesity and heart disease. The fructose in corn syrup does not break down, in the body, to be used as energy so it gets stored as fat. Artificial sweeteners in diet soda can lead to sugar cravings. Studies have also shown that people who consume soda on a daily basis are heavier than those who consume it only a few times a month.

This year, instead of weight loss as a resolution, try one or two of these steps. By breaking down your resolution into manageable steps, you are more likely to stick to your plan longer. The results of your success will be all the encouragement you need.

The weight loss protein debate centers around the effectiveness of casein and whey protein as weight loss supplements. Which type of protein can help you safely lose weight?

Support for Whey Protein

Whey, as a weight loss protein, is derived from animal milk sources.

Supporters of these products report that whey protein is superior to other protein supplements and can help dieters achieve their weight loss goals.

Here are the facts on whey protein:

  • Pure whey is most commonly found in a powder form for making a shake.
  • Whey protein quickly increases the blood levels of amino acids, usually within 1 hour, after ingestion.
  • The increase in amino acids after ingestion a whey protein shake peaks around 2 hours and falls to normal levels by 4 hours.
  • Little evidence is available on this fast build up of amino acids and the affects on weight loss. The results of some of the studies are inconclusive, at best.
  • A faster recovery and repair of muscle tissue after exercise is a clear benefit of whey protein. This can indirectly help dieters successfully reach their weight loss goals.
  • By supporting muscle tissue, whey protein helps to stabilize a fast metabolic rate -- a fast metabolic rate is critical to weight loss success.
  • However, to benefit from this affect, the protein shake must be ingested right before a workout.

Whey protein appears to help dieters lose weight by supporting muscle tissue.

Support for Casein Protein

The other weight loss protein, casein, is derived from animal sources. Claiming superiority over other weight loss proteins, here are the facts on casein protein:

  • It also is found in powder form for making a shake.
  • Casein protein raises blood levels of amino acids much later than whey protein. Usually, the rise in amino acids begins around 2 hours after drinking the shake, peaks around 4 hours, and falls off 6 hours later.
  • No evidence can support casein protein in the recovery and repair of muscle tissue after exercising.
  • Evidence does support casein protein in the preservation of muscle tissue when fasting or dieting. Some suggest it might even promote fat loss in individuals trying to lose weight.
  • This fat loss benefit is possible if the shake is consumed during times of long fasting (like between lunch and dinner, the second longest fast of the day for most people).
Casein protein seems to help dieters lose weight by preserving muscle tissue and promoting the breakdown of stored fat.

Weight Loss Protein Conclusion

Both whey and casein proteins appear to enhance weight loss efforts in two distinct methods.

Whey Protein--Supports muscle tissue.

Casein Protein--Preserves muscle tissue and may promote fat loss.

Some people have a difficult time in managing their depression. Sometimes, their depression and fears can get best of them. As a result, here is a short list of techniques that a person can use to help manage their depression.

I was told by a counselor that one of the ways to manage depression is to challenge your negative thinking with positive statements and realistic thinking. When encountering thoughts that make your fearful or depressed, challenge those thoughts by asking yourself questions that will maintain objectivity and common sense. For example, your afraid that if you do not get that job promotion then you will be stuck at your job forever. This depresses you, however your thinking in this situation is unrealistic. The fact of the matter is that there all are kinds of jobs available and just because you don?t get this job promotion doesn?t mean that you will never get one. In addition, people change jobs all the time, and you always have that option of going elsewhere if you are unhappy at your present location.

Some people get depressed and have a difficult time getting out of bed in the mornings. When this happens, a person should take a deep breathe and try to find something to do to get their mind off of the problem. A person could take a walk, listen to some music, read the newspaper or do an activity that will give them a fresh perspective on things. Doing something will get your mind off of the problem and give you confidence to do other things.

Sometimes, we can get depressed over a task that we will have to perform in the near future. When this happens, visualize yourself doing the task in your mind. For instance, you and your team have to play in the championship volleyball game in front of a large group of people in the next few days. Before the big day comes, imagine yourself playing the game in your mind. Imagine that your playing in front of a large audience. By playing the game in your mind, you will be better prepared to perform for real when the time comes. Self Visualization is a great way to reduce the fear and stress of a coming situation.

Another technique that is very helpful is to have a small notebook of positive statements that make us feel good. Whenever you come across an affirmation that makes you feel good, write it down in a small notebook that you can carry around with you in your pocket. Whenever you feel depressed, open up your small notebook and read those statements.

As a Layman and author of an anxiety book, I have done many interviews with various counselors in how to manage fear, anxiety and depression. The techniques that I have just covered are some basic ways to manage your depression, however your best bet is to get some help from a professional.

Health and Fitness

In a time where more than half of all Americans are considered overweight and obesity is on the rise the health and fitness industry is booming. Despite the poor health of our society as a whole, a large portion of the population is taking an interest in diet, exercise and fitness trends. While taking an interest in these fitness practices and strategies is not likely to result in improved health, actually implementing some of these practices and strategies is one way to put yourself on the path to a healthier you.

Diet is one of the most popular aspects of the fitness industry. There are a number of popular diets available today for those who are interested. There are diets which are high in protein and fat and low in carbohydrates, diets which are high in carbohydrates, diets which involve complex combinations of nutrients, diets which require the consumption of pre-packaged foods and even diets which limit the dieter to one or two foods during the course of these diets. In selecting a diet you should utilize common sense to determine whether or not a diet is likely to help you achieve desired results. Some diet plans such as those which are overly restrictive will likely be eliminated quickly during this process. You should also consider how easy the diet will be to adhere to until you lose the desired amount of weight. Considering these factors will help you to determine which diets will be most effective for you.

Exercise is another popular component in the fitness equation. Most people realize they should be doing some form of cardiovascular exercise and strength training but there is a great deal of contradicting information regarding the amount and type of exercise which is required for weight loss or fitness maintenance. Before beginning any fitness program, dieters should consult with their doctor to ensure they are fit enough to begin an exercise program. Those who have never exercised before may consider short walks of 10-15 minutes when they begin their exercise program. The duration and intensity of these walks can be increased as the fitness level increases.

Exercise equipment is another aspect of the fitness industry which confuses many. There is a great deal of equipment available and this variety can be overwhelming. Popular pieces of equipment include treadmills, stationary bicycles and elliptical trainers. These pieces of equipment allow the user to gain a cardiovascular workout but none of them are required for a fitness program. Dieters can run, jump, swim, play a sport, dance or participate in any activity without the use of complicated and expensive equipment.

Pilates equipment can be particularly confusing for would be exercise enthusiasts. Pilates has only become extremely popular in the last few years. Although many have jumped on the Pilates bandwagon on the recommendations of celebrities, most people do not have a full understanding of what Pilates really is and the equipment involved in practicing this form of exercise. Although there are complicated pieces of equipment such as reformers and trapeze tables most novices can simply purchase a floor mat and a DVD to begin their journey into Pilates.

SoyBased Meat And Dairy Alternatives

Many people making the shift to a vegetarian or vegan diet may be reluctant to try meat or dairy alternatives. Others simply do not realize the variety of products available to replace meat and dairy and still enjoy favorite foods like burgers, shakes, and cheese.

Meat alternatives are usually made from soy protein and other ingredients. These foods are not only of interest to vegetarians but are also of benefit to people who want to take advantage of the significant health benefits of soy. Soy protein products can be made to taste like meat. There are soy protein products that are naturally flavored to taste like beef, pork, chicken, and even fish. There are ?veggie? burgers, hot dogs, and deli meats as well. These products vary in terms of how much they taste like the meat-based foods they are named after. Some taste remarkably like meat while others do not. In many cases, people like the new versions better, even if they do not taste like meat. There are also products, like Revival soy bars and shakes, which use a natural process to pack concentrated amounts of isoflavones (the compounds in soy that are credited with health benefits) found in into a single serving.

Of course, the most popular meat alternative is tofu. Tofu, which resembles soft cheese, is made when soymilk is curdled with a coagulant. By itself, tofu is rather bland, but it has an amazing ability to soak up flavors. It is used as an ingredient in many flavorful recipes, such as scrambled tofu, tofu casserole, tofu stir-fry, and tofu taco filling.

Meat alternatives are available frozen, canned, and dried. There are also fresh products, like tofu hot dogs and veggie burgers that can be cooked just like the meat-based varieties of these foods. Natural food stores and food coops have the widest selection of meat alternatives, but they are also increasingly available in mainstream grocery stores. Soy can also be made into dairy alternatives, such as soymilk, soy cheese, and soy-based puddings and frozen desserts. There are also soy products made to resemble butter, cream cheese, and yogurt.

Soy products are an excellent source of protein, iron, and B vitamins. Some soy products are fortified with other nutrients as well. You may want to get more soy in your diet because of its nutritional benefits whether you are a vegetarian or not. There are many other soy products in addition to the wide variety of meat and dairy alternatives made from soy. These include soy oil, soy protein concentrate, textured soy protein, soy sauce, soy flour, and many other products that are used as cooking ingredients. You can also snack on soy nuts or crackers and soy butter. The possibilities are endless.

There are hundreds of delicious recipes, like the taco recipe below, that use tofu or soy as the main ingredient. Many other soy and vegetarian recipes can be found in the e-book Vegetarian Cooking, available at www.d-vegetarian.com.

Treatments of Diabetes

Before the discovery of insulin in 1921, everyone with type 1 diabetes died within a few years after diagnosis. Although insulin is not considered a cure, its discovery was the first major breakthrough in diabetes treatment.

Today, healthy eating, physical activity, and insulin via injection or an insulin pump are the basic therapies for type 1 diabetes. The amount of insulin must be balanced with food intake and daily activities. Blood glucose levels must be closely monitored through frequent blood glucose checking.

Healthy eating, physical activity, and blood glucose testing are the basic management tools for type 2 diabetes. In addition, many people with type 2 diabetes require oral medication and insulin to control their blood glucose levels.

People with diabetes must take responsibility for their day-to-day care. Much of the daily care involves keeping blood glucose levels from going too low or too high. When blood glucose levels drop too low from certain diabetes medicines--a condition known as hypoglycemia--a person can become nervous, shaky, and confused. Judgment can be impaired. If blood glucose falls too low, a person can faint.

Treatment of type 1 diabetes: Type 1 Diabetes must be treated with insulin shots. This involves injecting insulin under the skin -- in the fat -- for it to get absorbed into the blood stream where it can then access all the cells of the body which require it. Insulin cannot be taken as a pill because the juices in the stomach would destroy the insulin before it could work. Lack of insulin production by the pancreas makes type 1 diabetes particularly difficult to control. Treatment requires a strict regimen that typically includes a carefully calculated diet, planned physical activity, home blood glucose testing several times a day, and multiple daily insulin injections.

Treatment of type 2 diabetes: Treatment typically includes diet control, exercise, home blood glucose testing, and, in some cases, oral medication and/or insulin. Approximately 40 percent of people with type 2 diabetes require insulin injections.
